I believe in safety, education and opportunity for all. I will work to provide safe, clean communities where everybody lives without fear; to provide safe roads and local facilities; to act on your environmental concerns about well-drained sections, clean and flowing rivers, cycleways and walkways. Using my community experience, I will work for an attractive Christchurch where all citizens can develop their talents and interests.
Like Norman and Ruth Kirk before me, I promote education opportunities, including second chance education. I work with children and adults with dyslexia among all ages and cultures. I am privileged that people say, “You have given me my chance”. Recently I graduated PhD for my study on teaching dyslexic teenagers. I have lived in a Samoan village learning about traditions and culture.
I am privileged to have held leadership positions in community organizations:
- Board Member, Te Kupenga O Aranui (second chance education for teenagers);
- President, Avonhead Plunket;
- Charter President, Inner Wheel Club of Avonhead;
- National and local positions for SPELD;
- Wharenui Swimming Club coach.
Bob and I have lived in this ward for 40 years, and we raised our family here. I’m proud to have the support of Christchurch 2021 to seek your vote.
